Vitiligo is not just a cosmetic concern—it is a medical condition that requires expert care. At our clinic, we combine international standard technology with compassionate care to stop the spread of white patches and achieve maximum repigmentation.
Vitiligo is a skin condition that causes white patches due to loss of skin pigment. With early diagnosis and dermatologist-guided treatment, vitiligo can be controlled and repigmentation can be achieved in many cases.
At our dermatology clinic, vitiligo is treated under the expert care of Dr Sandesh Gupta, using evidence-based medicines, phototherapy, and advanced dermatology procedures.
Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder in which the immune system destroys melanocytes — the cells responsible for producing skin pigment (melanin). This results in white or light-colored patches on the skin.

1. Non-Segmental Vitiligo (Generalized)
Description: The most common type. Patches appear symmetrically on both sides of the body (e.g., both knees, both hands, around the eyes/mouth).
Behavior: It often progresses in cycles—periods of spreading followed by periods of stability.
Treatment: Responds well to Oral therapy and Whole Body Phototherapy.
2. Segmental Vitiligo
Description: Appears on only one side or segment of the body (e.g., one leg, half of the face).
Behavior: Usually starts early in life, spreads rapidly for 6-12 months, and then stops completely.
Treatment: Very resistant to creams but has the highest success rate with Vitiligo Surgery.
3. Focal Vitiligo
A few scattered white patches that do not follow a pattern.
4. Mucosal Vitiligo
Affects only the lips, genitals, or inner nose. This requires specific topical treatments safe for sensitive areas.
Vitiligo occurs due to a combination of genetic, immune, and environmental factors.

There is no scientific evidence that sour foods (citrus/curd) or fish/milk combinations cause vitiligo. We recommend a balanced diet rich in antioxidants.
Yes. Excimer and NB-UVB utilize specific wavelengths of light that are therapeutic, not damaging. They do not increase the risk of skin cancer.
No. Surgery is only successful if your vitiligo is stable (not spreading). If the disease is active, the graft may fail. We must stabilize you medically first.
It can run in families, but the risk of passing it to your children is relatively low (less than 10%).
